Assignments

Online Syllabus (25 points)
Students will create a web-based online syllabus designed to support a web- assisted or enhanced class.

Client-based Distributed Education Project (150 points)
Working as a group with a client (university faculty or public school teacher) students are to develop an interactive web site. The site may be an entire course or a course support, that is an interactive site containing handouts, quizzes, listserve, chat room and so forth, or a rapid prototype of a course under development (must include a minimum of 1-3 modules and course syllabus). Students are to turn in a paper based version of the site and its URL along with a written report summarizing the design steps (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation).

Market Survey (100 points)
Students are to survey the attributes of at least 15 "online courses" and are to prepare a summary report which describes the characteristics of those educational venues.

Midterm Examination (100 points)
A cognitive assessment instrument measuring students' knowledge of the content covered in lecture and in the textbook. Students are responsible for having independently read and understood the content of the textbook. The examination will be a hands-on practical evaluation of student's ability to construct web pages.

Peer Reviews (25 points)
Students projects must receive at least two (formative and summative) peer reviews. The peer reviews will be submitted with each project on required due dates.

In-class Projects (80 points/8 @ 10)
From time to time, other assignments both in class and out of class will be given by the instructor. Such assignments may include, but are not limited to content of the textbook, knowledge of web-based resources, design projects conducted in small group settings and other class-related assignments.

Group Technology Report (20 points)
Groups will investigate an elearning technology and then report their findings in a 2-3 page web site.

Late Work

All work is expected to be turned in on the appropriate due date. Late work will be penalized one letter grade per week of lateness. Exceptions will be made only for documented illness (doctor's note being provided) and death in the immediate family. In no case, should students presume that the instructor will grant an incomplete grade at the end of the semester. Work not completed at the end of the semester will be scored as 0 and entered in the grade books as such.

Grades

A - 90 to 100% of the total possible points
B - 80 to 89% of the total possible points
C - 70 to 79% of the total possible points
D - 60 to 69% of the total possible points
F - 50 to 59% of the total possible points
